Ce morceau de génie a obtenu une reconnaissance tardive, avec d'excellent reprises dans les années 60-70, notamment des Stones.
Robert Johnson, le guitariste de blues qui a inventé cette chanson et ces accords, m'a inspiré pour cette liste.

C'est un morceau de guitare, joué de façon splendide tout seul sur une acoustique. Cela ne diminue en rien la qualité des autres versions studio ou live, avec ses paroles plutôt optimistes, des harmonies superbes, et des effets spéciaux que seul Hendrix savait produire.

Choisir le numéro 3 après Robert Johnson et Jimmy Hendrix est vraiment difficile car l'écart est grand et il me semble trouver au moins 7 titres tous aussi excellents les uns que les autres, mais chacun à sa façon. Deux choses font sortir Hellbound Train du lot: La cohérence des 3 instruments de base, guitare rythmique, basse et batterie, qui donnent une pêche incroyable; et la fin coupée brutalement ou en fade-out selon les versions, comme si la musique du train ne pouvait pas s'arrêter sur une fin bien propre comme une arrivée en gare, mais progressivement et qu'il fallait un effet spécial, de couper le son brutalement en plein milieu de l'enregistrement, ou de réduire le son de manière très frustrante au milieu d'un magnifique solo de guitares. On imagine le train continuer éternellement.
