Not unlike its protagonist’s questionable morale choices, the movie walks the line between the good and the not-so-good, and leaves the viewer on the fence. At times poetic, Decision to Leave can be awfully predictable, pilling up the clichés of an award-winning thriller: An ambivalent love story, a murder mystery, and a tragic ending. If the scenario falls short of expectations, the editing choices reserve some surprises. Park Chan-wook propels the viewer directly from one scene into the middle of the next one. He narrates events that have not occurred yet, all while showing a completely different action. This confusion of the senses creates a dreamlike experience that participates to the attraction of the movie.
